Why is the toilet cistern leaking into the bowl?

The most common reason water keeps leaking into the toilet is a worn or damaged flush valve seal, or a faulty fill valve. To get it fixed properly, it's best to call a plumber. Without experience, it's easy to damage the delicate parts inside the cistern.

The shower won’t drain – what should I do? Can I use Kret?

DO NOT USE KRET or drain cleaning granules! If the water is standing still, you'll need proper gear - either pressure flushing or mechanical drain cleaning.
Warning: Kret is a very harsh chemical. It can damage seals, the trap, and even the shower tray itself.

Is it worth fixing an old faucet, or is it better to replace it?

There's one simple rule: old, worn-out, beat-up faucets get replaced; branded ones that still look good are worth fixing. If you've got a cheap, store-brand faucet that's seen better days, just replace it. But if you have an older one that you still like and it's in decent shape, fixing it makes sense.

Why isn’t my concealed cistern filling with water?

The main reason is a faulty or dirty fill valve. If it's just clogged, it needs to be taken out, dismantled, cleaned - preferably with professional-grade cleaners, then put back together and reinstalled. If the valve is worn out or damaged, the only real option is to replace it with a new one.
Warning: Be extra careful if you try to fix it yourself. A concealed cistern is made up of many very delicate parts. If you don't have experience, it's easy to break something during disassembly without even realizing it. The cost of a full set of original spare parts can be higher than the price of the whole concealed cistern unit.
Before you risk extra expenses, consider calling a service technician - it usually works out cheaper and better in the end.

I can smell a nasty sewer odor in the bathroom – is something broken?

In most cases, this happens after the place hasn't been used for a while and the water in the traps has evaporated. Just run the water for a moment in the sink, shower, and bathtub, then air out the room.
If the smell doesn't go away, it's worth calling a plumber, because there can be a few different causes. I've mentioned the one you can definitely fix yourself - the rest usually need a professional to step in.

How much does a plumber charge just to come out, and can you get a price estimate over the phone?

With honest, local plumbers in Łódź, the call-out is usually free or already included in the service price.
What's not fair is when middleman companies charge something like 100 - 150 PLN just for showing up, even if they don't fix anything.
As for pricing over the phone:
You can usually get a rough estimate, as long as the customer describes the problem properly.
The final price depends on what the plumber finds on site, because sometimes what looks like a small issue turns out to be a bigger job - and sometimes it's the other way around.
